Intensive Care nurses are highly qualified members of the team who specialise in treating critically unwell patients. They will look after one patient or at the most two patients at a time depending on the severity of illness of that individual.

- Giving patients their medications
- Taking personal care of them
- Checking patient blood pressure, monitoring the patient’s pulse and temperature
- Setting up drips of essential medications to help support a patients blood pressure
- Giving nutrition to patients by helping them with their meals
- Supporting the recovery of patients that have undergone severe surgery or treatment
- Ensuring patients are turned so that they can optimise their lung functions and to reduce the risk of pressure sores
- Providing psychological support for patients and relatives
